Renovation

Highland Middle School

Sparta, Ohio

MSA continues a decade long relationship with Highland Local Schools by leading the design efforts to renovate and convert this 1962 constructed High School into a Middle School for 510 students in grades 6-8.

The building was reconfigured to have a self-contained “transitional” wing for 6th grade, separated from the 7th/8th grade academic areas by the building core library, dining, fine arts, and gymnasium areas.

The project is seeking LEED Silver Certification and utilizes geothermal as a primary heating and cooling systems. Extensive reconstruction and restoration of the building was necessary to bring it up to modern educational standards, including a complete systems overhaul, reroofing, structural repairs and enhancements, as well as “opening up” the original large glazed openings through the installation of highly efficient glazing systems.
