MSA’s collaboration with a local graphic design firm was to provide a complete environmental design package for “Superhero Island” as part of the new Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando, Florida. The package consisted of design drawings and construction details for nearly 300 different graphic pieces. The graphics included large-scale super hero cut-outs mounted to the exterior of buildings, building identification and wayfinding signage, and concession and attraction signage. Many signs utilize a 3M computer printed vinyl adhered to sheet aluminum cut out to the design’s shape. Neon lighting is used on a number of signs along with flash lighting effects. Exterior large scale super graphics were coordinated with building structural systems for connection and wind-loading.
