Indian Hill Exempted Village School District

IHEVS Project Description

The Indian Hill Exempted Village School District (IHSD) selected MSA to assess the existing facilities and to develop a strategic Master Plan for the District.

MSA collaborated with various stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, and community members, to identify the primary goals and objectives and create visions for the future improvements at all three of the campuses.

Indian Hill Primary School

MSA developed the design for the renovated Primary School. The project consists of a new main entry addition along with extensive renovations to several areas throughout the existing School, including the front offices, multi-purpose room, Auditorium, dining and food services. The new addition improves security at the entry, provides much needed expanded administrative and student services spaces, and updates the overall appearance of the school to better reflect the Indian Hill brand identity. The addition of environmental graphics and murals were also introduced throughout the space to enhance the environment and also assist with learning lessons for students. Updates to the interior of the building brings the outdated 1960’s era interior into the 21st Century and provides environments that will better support learning now and well into the future.

Indian Hill Elementary School Addition

MSA also developed the design for the new Elementary school addition. The new addition houses new art studios, state-of-the-art STEM lab, music classrooms, language classrooms, collaboration areas, and a multi-purpose performance and recreation space. The new, flexible and active learning spaces compliment the existing, more standard academic building and are a place where students can explore, interact, and spark their curiosity for learning. Learning spaces open onto a centralized, community commons that supports social interaction and collaboration. Large window openings and access to outdoor areas strengthen the connection to nature and provide increased daylight and views.

The project also includes improvements to the outdoor learning and play spaces and reconfigures entry plazas and parking areas to address issues with security and access as well as with overall traffic flow in and around the campus.

Indian Hill Middle School

This project consisted of demolition of the existing Indian Hill middle school building and rebuilding a brand-new facility for their 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The 123,000 square foot building is nestled between their existing gymnasium and a shared auditorium connected to the Indian Hill high school. A few of the primary goals and objectives with the new school were to make it more welcoming and inviting, engage the community, spark curiosity, foster creativity and innovation and provide a place that will inspire students to discover their passion for learning. Like the other campuses, there was also a desire to connect with nature and make the new building as highly sustainable as possible.

Village and Neighborhoods

One of the primary drivers to the configuration of the new building is the development of the learning community. The concept of a ‘Village’ was used to organize the spaces in this program. A central hub named ‘The Village Green’ is a space for students to gather, collaborate, and pass through. All other programs in the building branch off this center hub. Core academic classrooms for each grade are organized around shared common spaces with direct access to outdoor project patios. Each cluster of spaces creates a separate “neighborhood” for each grade. The neighborhoods are then organized around a central community commons that contains various other community-focused areas, including STEM project labs, digital technology studios, learning cafes, and student and faculty collaboration spaces.

The project also includes improvements to the outdoor learning and play spaces and reconfigures entry plazas and parking areas to address issues with security and access as well as with overall traffic flow in and around the campus.

Indian Hill High School Performing Arts Center

MSA Design was hired initially to assess the existing 1960’s era Performing Arts facilities, facilitate engagement sessions with the various stakeholders, and develop a master plan to accommodate future needs. MSA assisted the District in implementing the master plan over a period of 10-years. Projects included lighting, sound, and technology upgrades, stage and pit improvements, lobby and house renovations, and a new addition with large scene shop, costume and lighting shop, multi-purpose dressing rooms, green room, and theater storage.

Indian Hill Home of the Braves

The Home of the Braves project was the final phase in the overall master plan for the athletic facilities that MSA developed with the Indian Hill School District. Starting in 2011, as part of the overall master plan, the various playing fields and fan amenities were re-configured to allow for a central entry and gathering place that could more easily serve all of the facilities and create a more cohesive and dynamic athletic complex. The overall complex was designed with athletes, coaches, fans, and facility operations in mind and successfully addresses all of the needs while providing a highly functional and dynamic environment that enhances the users experience.
